End the "mommy wars"...

I've been pretty vocal about my belief that the "mommy wars" concept is just a media-contrived melodrama. As a journalist, I grow frustrated and tired of other outlets continuing to create add fire to a non-existent flame and wonder why they don't focus on more important issues. Like extended, paid maternity leave. Because it's not sexy, of course.

So I was thrilled to see this petition from MomsRising - it calls for an end to the so-called mommy wars:

"Let the heads of CBS, NBC, and ABC know it's time to move beyond the false rhetoric of the 'Mommy Wars,' because all moms are in the same boat. We all need better family-friendly policies. It’s time to focus on real problems in need of real solutions. The signed petition, with your comments, will be delivered at a media event in New York City on Ceasefire Day...''

Ceasefire Day will be May 16th, the day after Mother's Day.

Take a minute and sign the petition.

AMEN!! Done!

Done! We wrote moms rising up at Cool Mom Picks today as well-- such a great organization and glad to hear they're getting all the word of mouth they deserve.

What an awesome idea. I'm all for it and personally, I think everyone in the mom blogosphere ought to consider signing it.
