I came across an old copy of Outside Magazine this week. It's the January 2006 issue and features an article with ideas to "live life to its fullest." Things like climb El Capitan, write a fan letter, love a dog...some small things mixed with some big things that just make you think - life is good.
My favorite idea comes from author Ian Frazier: "Watch a kid do something great."
Frazier writes, "Witnessing your kid's triumph is gigantically more exhilarating than enjoying your own." And it's true. Everytime I watch Nol do something new at swim class, when I see his sense of accomplishment, pride and excitement beaming off of his face. Through his smile and wide-open big, brown eyes. I try to capture that moment in my mind (and through the camera lense!) and store it forever. I'm mesmerized watching his friends cackle over a discovery or cheer for a new-found ability to swing a bat and actually hit a baseball.
It's so simple, really. To watch your kid, or any kid for that matter, do something great. As Frazier says, "the thrill" of that memory will always remain.
Life is good.
