Let me just be upfront: I love my alma mater. I am a California Golden Bear to the core. So when we took the boys to the campus today to watch the men's water polo team play in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament, I was excited to see cute, buff male swimmers in speedos, yes. But I couldn't wait to tour the campus with my post-grad eyes and let my little guys run around Sproul Plaza.
We cheered Cal on as they smacked Long Beach State around the pool. We held our Go Bears signs and waved our blue and gold pompoms with every point scored. And we took turns chasing Q. throughout the bleachers for an hour in the blazing sun. Two is not so terrible but it sure is giving us a workout. I, of course, was never distracted by the team. Not once. (I love you, JB.)
Post game, we bought some updated Cal gear to sport around our largely Stanford-supporting town. We're days away from Big Game week and need to rally Blue and Gold in a big way.
I took Five to Wheeler Hall to show him where I spent most of my time in class pontificating about literature. Q. also nearly jumped into the water fountain in the middle of Sproul Plaza, marking the first time I've ever sworn in front of the boys. I yelled "Oh, sh*t!" when I spied Q. as he stood atop the side of the fountain, bent over toward the water. Remarkably, Five was beside me and didn't notice my choice words...we think. (If he says it in class, at least we know who is to blame.)
To finish up our truly Cal day, we took the boys to Blondie's Pizza for super quick and cheap eats. The boys are now napping -- all three of them -- while Luna and I are in the living room enjoying the quiet.
TGIF, indeed.
